500 Babies Go to a Protest

Whew! What an experience! Yesterday afternoon we loaded up and headed downtown to the Alamo for the Tax Day Tea Party. It was amazing to stand in unity with thousands of fellow Americans who are fed up with the out-of-control spending by our government. Crowd estimates were at 16,000 people!
It was a struggle to keep the kids happy for the 4 hours we were downtown. Our strategy was food, food, and more food. We also moved positions a few times and even found a little corner where the kids could run around for a few minutes.
I don't know what the future holds. But I want to teach my children that they have the right and a duty to stand up for the values and principles upon which America was founded. Values and principles that we seem to be forgetting, but that were shared by the thousands of individuals we stood with last night.

Fun at the Polls

I voted early today. Here are three observations about my experience:

1. The election worker who signed me in was named "John McCain". No kidding.

2. I was asked by two separate individuals if this was my first time voting (because I look young.) It's actually my fifth presidential election.

3. A voter in front of me asked the election worker if there was a "cheat sheet" in the voting booth that gave the candidates' positions on the issues. Huh???? She was referring to the candidates in the races other than for the presidency, but still.

Social Studies for Toddlers

A few moments ago I heard Joe squealing excitedly in response to something he saw on TV. The news was on, so I wasn't sure what would be making him so excited. But I had a hunch. Sure enough, it was John McCain. I taught Joe who John McCain is the day McCain announced Palin as his running mate. Ever since then, whenever Joe sees him on TV he gets very excited. Now I just hope I will have the opportunity to teach him "President McCain".

Republicans for Voldemort

This is a bumper sticker I saw while driving yesterday:

At first I laughed. Out loud. A lot.

Then I thought, "I don't get it."

Is it anti-Republican, implying that we follow an evil lord?

Or is it just supposed to be funny?

How about "Muggles for McCain"?
